강아지 낑낑거리는 이유 / 강아지 울음 / 분리불안

 

안녕하세요 :) 즐거운 연휴 보내고 계신가요?
맛있는 음식들을 먹고 있다 보면 옆에서 아련한 눈빛을 보내며 낑낑거리는 강아지들을 많이 볼 수 있습니다. 
먹을 것을 달라고 하는 걸까요?

우리는 강아지와 대화하지 못하지만 사실 강아지들은 여러 방식으로 사람과 소통하려고 합니다. 그럼 강아지는 대체 왜 낑낑거리는 걸까요? 뭘 말하고 싶은 걸까요? 
 
Dogs may not be able to talk, but they are trying to use many other methods of communication to interact with people. Whining is one of those methods. Why do dogs whine? What are they trying to say?

1. 불안 (무섭거나 스트레스받을 때) 

Feeling anxious(Your dog is scared or stressed )

강아지는  무섭거나 긴장될 때 낑낑거리며 불안함을 알립니다. 낑낑거리는 소리와 함께 서성거리고 벌벌 떠는 행동을 동시에 한다면, 현재 강아지가 무언가에 많이 불안해하고 무서워하고 있다는 뜻입니다. 새로운 환경변화(이사, 외출시간의 변경 등)와 같은 급작스러운 변화는 강아지들에게 하나의 스트레스가 되고 이것이 불안으로 이어져 낑낑거릴 수 있습니다.
 
Whining can be your dog’s way of saying that they are scared or anxious. If your dog is also pacing, trembling while whining, they are likely fearful or anxious about something. If something has changed in your dog’s environment – a new home, a change in your work schedule etc  – stress-related anxiety can come in the form of whining or whimpering. 
 
분리 불안 (Separation anxiety)
만약 집을 떠나려고 하기 전에 유난히 강아지가 낑낑거린다면 이는 분리불안일 수 있습니다. 분리불안 행동은 주인이 집을 떠났을 때 문 앞에서 낑낑거리며 울부짖거나 또는 가구를 물어뜯거나 씹는 등의 행동으로 나타날 수 있습니다. 분리불안은 만성으로 이어질 수 있기 때문에 초기에 반려견 훈련사(혹은 전문의)를 통해 교육을 받는 것이 분리불안 해결에 도움이 될 수 있습니다.
 
If your dog is whining right before you leave the house, this could indicate separation anxiety. Dogs with separation anxiety often engage in destructive behaviors, including chewing and destroying furniture while you are gone. They can also bark, whine often near exit. Separation anxiety can lead to chronic crying. If you want to fix separtaion anxiety with your dog, separation anxiety training by a dog trainer(or veterinarian) can help solve it.
 

2. 통증 Being sick / Pain

사람도 아플 때 시름시름 앓는 것처럼 강아지도 통증이 있으면 아프다는 것을 알려주는 신호로서 낑낑거릴 수 있습니다. 예를 들어 계단을 오를 때나 의자에 뛰어 올라올 때 낑낑거리는 소리를 함께 낸다면 이는 관절에 이상이 생겨 불편함으로 인해 내는 소리일 수 있습니다. 이럴 땐 동물병원에 내원하시어 수의사의 진료를 받는 것이 중요합니다.
 
Whining could be an indication that your dog is in some kind of physical distress. If they whine every time they try to go up the stairs or jump on the chair, it may mean that your dog is uncomfortable becuase of joint pain or injury. In this case, you should contact your veterinarian and schedule an appointment.
 

3. 원하는 것이 있음 혹은 관심

아마 이 이유에서 강아지의 낑낑거리는 소리를 쉽게 접하셨을 것 같습니다. 강아지는 무언가 원하는 것이 있을 때 낑낑거립니다. 예를 들어 음식 또는 물을 달라거나 산책을 원할 때, 혹은 장난감이 어디에 끼어 있거나 사라졌을 때 낑낑거리는 경우가 대부분입니다. 보통은 이 원하는 것을 해결해 준다면 더 이상 울음소리를 내지 않습니다. 하지만 한 가지 유의해야 할 점이 있습니다. 만약 음식을 원해서 줬음에도 더 달라며 낑낑거리는 경우에는 약간의 주의가 필요한데요. 만약 강아지의 낑낑거리는 소리에 대한 반응으로 음식을 더 주게 되면, ("내가 소리를 내면 더 주는구나"라고 인식하게 하여) 강아지의 행동을 더 나쁘게 만들 수 있기 때문에 주의가 필요합니다.
 
원하는 것이 따로 있지 않음에도 때로는 아무도 관심 가져주지 않을 때 혹은 지루함을 느낄 때 낑낑거리는 경우도 있습니다. 심한 분리불안과 같은 경우가 아니라면 이는 강아지와 충분히 산책하는 시간을 가지면 해결될 수 있습니다. 

The most obvious reason your dog may be whining is that they need or want something from you, like food, water, a toy, or a walk. Maybe their favorite toy is stuck underneath the couch or disappeared. The whining should stop once you identify the problem and fix it. However, if your dog is whining for more food after you just fed them, this is a problem that needs to be fixed. If you give your dog more food in response to their whining, the behavior will only get worse.
 
Sometimes dog whine because no one is paying attention to them or just because they are bored. In this case, Make sure you’re giving your dog enough exercise at least twice a day. 
 

 

위의 이유들 외에도 외부에서 다른 강아지 만났을 때 낑낑거린다면 놀고 싶다는 뜻이 될 수 있고, 다른 동물(새 등)을 만났을 때 낑낑거리는 것은 그 동물을 잡고 싶어서 그럴 수도 있습니다. 이 두 가지 이유에서의 낑낑거림은 큰 문제가 되지 않지만 본문의 내용처럼 분리불안 혹은 통증에 따른 낑낑거림은 장기간 지속될 경우 예후가 좋지 않기 때문에 전문의와의 상담을 통해 치료받아보시길 권해드립니다.
 
Dogs may whine when they see other dogs outside. They may whine to show that they want to be friendly to others. If dogs see birds, they may whine just because they want to catch them. But whining for these reasons is not a serious problem.
However if the whining caused by separation anxiety or pain goes on for long periods, it can get aggravating. You should take your dog to the vet to get them checked out.
